A Righteous Man

Are you a righteous man (or woman)? You'd be surprised at how many people, even those who profess to be Christians would answer no to this. Tradition has taught us that in order to be humble or even holy that we must think of ourselves as poverty-stricken, broken-down, powerless sinners day in and day out. But scripture says the exact opposite.

Let's get something straigh right now. Being a Christian does not mean that we're some kind of zealot who tiptoes throughs the tuplics without a care in the world - never getting angry, never getting jealous or envious, never offending anyone or becoming offended ourselves, never having a bad thought, etc. Christian means Christ-like - which means even though we live in today's society where Godly values seem almost non-existant, we choose to follow after what is right, regardless. That means taking a stand for something even if we stand alone. It means learning about our responsiblities and making sure we always take care of them. It means giving of ourselves to others even when it hurts to do so. It means going the extra mile for someone when we can. It means apologizing to end a fight even when we know we're right. Sound difficult? It is much easier to flow with the crowd going downhill than to climb uphill alone. But the rewards are worth it.

What are such rewards? Peace of mind for one thing. Can you truly say that you have real peace today? If the answer is no, have you ever stopped to figure out why not? Some other rewards include a higher level of wisdom as well as a greater respect among men, including one's enemies.

Finding out which decisions are right for us is one thing. Actually making them is another. Keep in mind, we shouldn't try to be perfect. We should simply strive to do what we know is right. THis is where our prayer life comes into play. And everyone should have a prayer life. There is simply no excuse not to. Communication with God every day is what will keep us on the right track. When we seek GOd He responds by giving us crucial things - like knowledge above most men, strength to endure as well as overcome, favoritisim where and with whom we need, and many other things. As long as the world continues to tell us that we should be fearful of failure, expect the worst, and every other negative imaginable, then this communication with God is a must.

Now here are some important pointers, especially if you are ready to start trying for a better life. Introducing yourself to God and communicating with Him on a daily basis is key. Also, do not allow any person, group, or church to direct your life by telling you what they think you should or should not do. THis is between you and God, and if someone becomes displeased with your decisions, then that's between them and God. You only answer to one person, so you better make sure He's the one you're pleasing.

Lastly, and this is very important - even most mature Christians have difficulty living a victorious life today, at least in every area. Trying to live a godly lifestyle is not easy so don't fall into condemnation when you mess up. Spalms 24:16 - A righteous man may fall seven times, yet he will rise again.

Most people think the point of this scripture lies in the last part (rising again after sinning) - but I believe the power of this scripture is in the beginning (A righteous man may fall). You see, even when we're sitting in a huge mud puddle of sin, God stills sees us a righteous. Why? Because He looks on the intent of the heart.

If you don't already know God, isn't it time to get started? Wouldn't you like to know that you are receiving from life all that He has for you? And don't think that if you're reading this that you're here by accident. You're reading this for a purpose and will not be able to dismiss this Lesson as easily as you think.

It's your move.
