As with all professional, independent book publishers and independent book reviewers, authors need to take care in finding professional independent bookstores as well. A respectable bookstore won't sell just anything on its shelves and has guidelines in order to keep its stock worthy of its buyers, whether booksellers or individual book readers. And the Covenant Carriage Bookstore is no different.
TRADITIONAL BOOKSTORES VS INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORES Traditional Bookstores are difficult to deal with, demanding proof of a lucrative, professional book-marketing campaign, not to mention 65% or higher of author profits. They also demand the author pay all shipping fees to and from and demand the option to return all books that haven't sold within a certain amount of time at the author's expense. That's if they agree to sell your book and unless you're a well-known author able to pull in thousands of dollars in sales, you might as well forget about it. Independent Bookstores are much easier and friendlier to deal with. The Covenant Carriage Bookstore, for instance, does not demand professional book-marketing campaigns, and expects only 45% of sale of profits. We do not return books and we do not have shipping fees. We do, however, take pride in our stock and deal with professional authors only, accepting only the best of independent published books.
