Self publishing may be easier

I think first time authors try self publishing with an independent book publisher. First time authors may try a couple of different places for self publishing before they find the right independent book publisher. I think first time authors find it easier to do self publishing with a good independent book publisher. Some may just want to let someone else do the publishing and keep writing. First time authors may have to work harder than other authors.
